STEM Out!

Saturday, February 7th, 2015
Registration will open in early January!

WHO: Recommended for girls grades 7-12 (activities are targeted for this age group)
WHAT: A day just for girls to hear stories from women in STEM careers, participate in hands-on activities, network with peers and mentors, and have fun!
WHERE: UW Paul G. Allen Center for Computer Science and Engineering
WHEN: Saturday, February 7, 2015, 9:45am-2:30pm
WHY: To allow girls to explore Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers.
COST: FREE!  (100 person capacity)

The day’s events will include
* Hearing from women speakers in STEM careers
* Working in groups to accomplish activities related to STEM topics
* Networking with other women interested in STEM careers
* (Please note that since we are re-using many activities from last year, we don't recommend repeat participation this year.)

Speakers

Jennifer Schleit
Jennifer is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Washington in the School of Medicine. She studies how DNA affects diseases.

Jazz Bailey
Jazz is a Software Development Engineer at Amazon. She studied Computer Science at Northwestern University, and before joining Amazon she was a ski instructor and wrote software for the financial industry.

Denise Noyes
Denise Noyes is an engineer at Facebook, where she is a tech lead for voice and video messaging. She was also a software manager and software developer at Amazon.com working on teams including grocery delivery and Amazon's order pipeline.  Denise holds a BS in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University.
